Bridge Period

The gap between moving out of one home and into the next, when your belongings need somewhere to go.

A bridge period is the gap when you have left your old home but cannot yet move into the new one, common for homeowners whose sale and purchase do not close on the same day. During this window your belongings, and sometimes you, need a temporary home. The two main solutions are storage and portable containers. Traditional storage means moving everything into a unit and then out again later, double the labor. A portable container is loaded once, kept in storage or your driveway, and delivered to the new place when you are ready, removing the second handling. For a short gap, a container often wins on effort even if not always on price. Plan for the bridge period rather than hoping it disappears. Same-day close-and-move almost never goes perfectly. Budget for a few days to a few weeks, arrange storage in advance, and pack your essentials bag to cover the gap so you are not living out of unmarked boxes in a hotel. The smoothest moves treat the bridge period as expected, not as a problem to solve at the last minute.
